Meaning of life
What is the purpose of life? As simple as it seems, many people will have different interpretation and most might not know how to answer this questions. In order to gain understanding of meaning of life, let me take you on a journey through the Bible to find who why when and how we were made. By the end of our journey, we should get a glimpse of the meaning of our existence.
“In the beginning God created Heaven and earth”. This simple first-sentence in the word of the God tells us how this world didn’t come by chance; nothing in this world came by chance. In Isaiah 66:1-2, the Bible declares that Heavens is the throne of God and the earth is His footstool. In verse two, the Lord says, “has not MY hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” Psalm 100:3 says “Know that the LORD is God. It is He, who made us, and we are his; we are His people, the sheep of his pasture. The Bible confirms the ownership of us by God. He formed the earth and called us into being. Genesis 2:7 says the Lord God made man out of dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living being. There is no doubt that God made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is within, and made man in His own image.
To Understand how we came to being and who made us, we have to find out, why were we made, what is our purpose on earth.
After creation of the earth God made man and as Genesis 1:28 says, God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." Man was given a special task by God to rule over what he has made. The story continues when the only woman on earth, Eve, was deceived by the devil to disobey God. Because of this, God promised “my spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be hundred and twenty years”. Genesis 6:3. The perfect being that God made was now destroyed by sin. Our immortal being was corrupted and we are now mortal. To save mankind from death which was our only prize for our sins, God had a plan for his children, the plan of redemption. And because God loves the world so much, He gave his one and only begotten son that whosoever has faith in Him will not die, but live forever as John 3:16 states.
